Legislation and guidelines coming from government are giving increasing
emphasis to ensuring that all aspects of website service delivery are
fully accessible by the widest possible audience. In practise this means
ensuring that sites are designed to help a wide variety of users who may
have less than perfect ability to either see the screen or navigate the
site using a mouse.
To date Midland Alpha has completed thee accessible website projects and
these have included a number of features in common:
- Easily adjustable text size and colours of text and background
- Navigation using a keyboard as well as a mouse
- Design for use in conjunction with speech output systems
Some examples of our work on accessible websites are included in the
"Client Sites" section. In the remainder of this section we
cover the standards used for building accessible sites and a demonstration
of the mechanism we use for adjusting text size and screen colours.
